The Most Stubborn Muscles – Calves & Traps
The Most Stubborn Muscles – Calves & Traps
by Christian Duque
We all know the catch to building muscle by now – sometimes – it’s a lot easier said than done. Whether our issue is getting in the calories, training hard enough, or simply drinking enough water, we as athletes must always persevere. There are situation that can royally test us to the limits though. Take the two toughest muscles to train – calves & traps. Some guys can go an entire pro bodybuilding career, employing the best trainers, going to the best gym, & using the best supplements and they just can’t build quality calves. Traps are equally difficult. Have you ever heard of someone suffering from a calf or trap injury? Traps are close to shoulders & shoulders are highly injury prone, but calves? No one has ever injured their calves. The single biggest mistake when it comes to stubborn muscles, is that they’re not hard enough. Some folks make the mistake of overtraining, but overtraining never works. The key to developing a lagging body part is intensity, not frequency.
In addition to training heavy, you should train smart. Remember that each athlete is created different. Only you know what your body responds to. Many times lifters err by listening more to trainers, spotters, & workout buddies than to their own selves! This will get you nowhere & fast!
Be sure to train hard and always eat sufficient food to give the body the ability to keep up. Perhaps the single most important feeding is post-workout. The second you’re done, the very second you put the weights down, you should down your Tokkyo Protein shake. Everything else can wait – trust me!
