Stop checking your weight everyday

Stop checking your weight everyday
by Marylin Salgado
So, ladies, you think we are the only ones who obsesses over our weight? Here’s a little secret. As a nurse, I interact with men and women daily. It so happens, men check there weight almost every day and women only a few times a week. Why? Because men think muscle gain happens that quickly. Unfortunately, it does not. Neither does losing weight.
The scale is not the safest way to assess if you are healthy or not or overweight or not. Here’s why? I am 5’0 inches tall and weigh between 128 and 130 pounds. I check my weight once to twice a week, at the most. Obsessing over your weight will not make you lose weight any quicker and does not determine if you are free from Diabetes, Cardiac disease or other chronic conditions. ONLY a physician and some labs can determine that. I have seen men and women who are overweight with no chronic conditions, but maybe some shortness of breath and joint discomfort because they are having some difficulty carrying that weight. Then, I’ve also seen some men and women who are of average weight and have High Cholesterol, Diabetes and Cardiac disease. Some health conditions are genetic. That also does not mean that grossly overweight individuals will not suffer from some form of health issue or multiple ones.
Besides, ladies, men love curves. A little fat never hurt anyone. And I’ve never heard a man complain of a little extra added weight to any women’s thighs or butt. Muscles add firmness and definition, but a little fat adds soft curves and makes women who we are. And trust me ladies, men love the curves.
